Your wardrobe can save you money
You wardrobe should be working for you.
It should be hustling every single day to ensure that you look and feel the way you want. It should also be saving you money. Are you wondering how? Well, it might not be what you initially think, which might be buying clothes on the sales rack or shopping at fast fashion outlets. It’s quite the opposite.
Conscious shopping is what will save you money.
Thinking about the gaps in your wardrobe and investing in good quality staple items will not only save you money, but it will also save the environment. Did you know that we Australians buy 27 kilograms of clothes a year and 23 kilograms of it ends up in landfill? The sad thing is that most of these materials are man-made synthetics which means that it never breaks down.
Have you ever had the feeling where you feel like you have so many clothes but nothing to wear?
It might be because some of your shopping trips have been fuelled by emotion. Maybe you got a promotion, so you thought you might reward yourself with a new item. Or you could have had a really bad day, so you thought retail therapy would make you feel better. This is often how we end up with a wardrobe full of mismatched items.
To save money and the planet, the following steps will help you become a more conscious shopper.
Know what the gaps are. Doing a wardrobe audit with a stylist or on your own will allow you to identify your wardrobe gaps. These might be essentials and basics which will bring the rest of your wardrobe together. Only shop for these gaps and keep focused.
Shop for quality not quantity.
Clothing made from natural fibres such as cotton, wool and leather will last longer and be more comfortable on your skin. You will find that a t-shirt priced at $10 may only last you a few wears and end up in landfill, whilst a t-shirt that is $50 may last many years. Just because something is expensive doesn’t necessarily mean it is well made. However, items that are made with natural fibres do tend to last longer.
Consciously shop and avoid sales which offer free bubbly!
How many times have you been invited to a VIP sale with bubbly and hip tunes included? Well, this can be dangerous for your wallet. Your free champers could equate to buying a lot of things you don’t need. I recommend that you unsubscribe from all mail listings and VIP lists. Only shop for what you need, and when you do, have a plan. Write a shopping list and make sure you stick to it!
