Capsule Wardrobe Basics
Building a capsule wardrobe for work will relieve the stress of getting dressed every morning, as you will fall into a rotation routine.
Here are eight essential items you should have in your wardrobe as building blocks for a capsule work wardrobe.
1. Classic leather handbag
A classic leather handbag will stand the test of time. It is worth investing in a good quality handbag as you will get many years of use out of it. It should be a colour and shape that will suit any outfit. A good choice is a square tote, which will fit all your essentials including your laptop or tablet.
2. Black or nude heels
Wearing comfortable heels is empowering. Sky high stilettos are best left for special occasions. You want to be comfortable at work and walk with confidence. Patent leather is a great choice as it tends to keep looking new for a very long time. Black or nude are best as they tend to match with everything.
3. Silk shirt
Invest in a silk shirt. There just something luxurious about wearing silk. I prefer a collared silk shirt with long sleeves. This can be worn with a pair of tailored pants, or pencil skirt.
4. Tailored pants
Pants which fit properly and are flattering can do you wonders. Cigarette pants that finish just above the ankle elongate the leg and is generally a very flattering fit.
5. Pencil skirt or a-line skirt
Depending on your body shape, either a pencil or a-line skirt is a must for any work wardrobe. Skirts can be matched with a variety of different tops which will create multiple looks without breaking the bank.
6. Black Dress
Cliché, but a little black dress is a good go-to. If you invest in a high-quality wool dress, you will find that it will last you many years. It is also serve as a great layering piece.
7. Classic Blazer
Have fun with this one. A blazer is perfect for layering and adding a new look. Look for cuts and high-quality materials. Try and steer clear of trendy blazers and stick to colours and cuts that are classics which you know will stand the test of time.
8. Trench Coat
A trench coat will be in your wardrobe forever. A good high quality trench will take you from Spring to Winter. Choose a colour that you know will match with other items in your wardrobe. I usually like to stick to camel, black or navy as I know it pair with everything else in my wardrobe.
