How to care for your handbags
Before anything enters my wardrobe, I ensure that I absolutely love it. This can mean that I sit on a purchase decision for months if not years!
That is why caring for your bags is so important – to ensure that they last for many years to come.
Here is what I do ensure my bags last me many years.
Always ensure that you handle your bags with clean hands.
This means make sure you have no creams, foundation and make up residue on your hands. These oils can discolor and stain your bags. It can also alter the feel of the leather.
Don’t put your handbag on the floor.
Not only will your bag get dirty, but it is also considered to be bad Feng shui. Your bag is seen as a symbol of your wealth. Putting it on the floor is a sign of disrespect for your money. Invest in a bag hook instead or consider putting your bag behind your chair or on your lap.
Use a bag liner or insert.
This not only helps preserve the shape of your bag, but it also helps with keeping the inside if your bag clean. I love buying mine of Etsy.
Store your bags with their dust bags or a cover.
This ensures that overtime there is limited discoloration. Ensure that your bags are not stored in direct sunlight and exposed to high temperatures. Never store them in plastic, as your bags can sweat, and this can cause fungus or mold over time.
Rotate your bags.
When I love a new bag, I use it all the time. But the best thing to do is rotate your bags – like rotating your shoes. It gives them a chance to rest and to breathe.
When you cherish and respect your things – they will in turn serve you for a longer time. I love curating my collection and looking after all my bags. I have had some bags in my collection for more than 5 years and they are still as new today.
Enjoy curating your bag collection!
